GEKE SCHALKWIJK
Geke Schalkwijk (b.1996) is a contemporary artist from Rotterdam who explores the tension between human instincts and a rapidly evolving world. His concept, ‘Biological Delusion,’ examines how our prehistoric brains struggle to adapt to modern technologies and social structures. While we once hunted for survival, we now navigate a world of control and progress—yet our instincts remain unchanged. Through ancient symbols, materials, and survival techniques, Schalkwijk visualises this conflict, questioning how our primal nature fits into today’s constructed reality.
“Clay Pigeon” traces the evolution of hunting from survival to sport. A prehistoric arrow piercing a clay target bridges the past and present, highlighting how we’ve moved from self-sufficiency to dependence. Once a necessity, hunting is now recreation—revealing our reliance on a system that feeds us yet leaves us vulnerable.
